Floating Portrait

I've always wanted to attempt a floating portrait, but I'd never managed to arrange the right type of shoot to try one. Back in August I assisted on a shoot where a floating portrait was created, and then later saw the editing process and completed image. Seeing this process from start to finish made me want to try this even more, and it's such a simple technique that I decided to try and fit one in to an upcoming shoot.

Here is my very first attempt at a floating image, taken while photographing Flutterbydaisy designs.

Flutterbydaisy

While shooting at The Pit Studio for Jawbreaker clothing I decided to take advantage of travelling to Nottingham and booking the studio for a full day. I'd been asked by designer Natayna Waybourne (Flutterbydaisy) if I could shoot some of her new dresses. As one of my favourite designers it was a simple answer, I'd also previously photographed some outfits a few years and to date those photos are still some of my favourite.

With this set of images and the location, I aimed to capture a Cinderella theme and show a contrast between young and beautiful and old and derelict.

Jawbreaker Clothing

Back in August I travelled up to Nottingham to photograph a selection of dresses from Jawbreaker Clothing. The location of the shoot was at The Pit studio, which I would highly recommend to any photographer who wants to shoot at a derelict location that's safe and legal to use!

While the rooms offer some amazing natural light, I still decided to use my off camera flashes set up on triggers.

A selection of images were published in the September issue of Rebelicious magazine which you can read online at http://issuu.com/rebeliciousmagazine/docs/rebelicious_issue25digi

Leeds Festival 2014 - Friday

A few months ago I was put down to shoot Leeds Festival for Hit The Floor magazine. I figured out that it was only a 2 hour drive from Peterborough and to be honest that's all the thinking I gave it because I never thought I'd actually get to shoot it. That was until about two weeks before the festival when I got a confirmation email, and couldn't believe it!

I took two cameras with me, my Nikon D7000 and a D7100 which I borrowed from work, and kitted them out with a 70-200mm f/2.8 and a 50mm f1/.8. The photopass that I had enabled me to shoot every stage except the main stage. Of course I'd have loved to have shot the main stage and hopefully one day I will, but there were still so many other amazing bands to shoot!

Here's a selection of shots from Friday in the order that they played, to see the full sets on Flickr just click the band name.
