Mallory Knox - The Cresset - 17/11/14

After living in Peterborough for just over a year now I've finally been to and shot my first gig here! Mallory Knox played The Cresset in Peterborough Monday 17th and I was lucky enough to get the chance to also shoot on stage!

Pop Punks Not Dead - 16/11/14

New Found Glory are one of my ultimate favourite bands, I first borrowed one of their CDs from a mate in school when I was about 13/14. I then saw them for the first time at the Carling Academy in Birmingham when I was 17. After that first gig I made sure that I went to every tour when they played Birmingham, and I kept this up for a good number of years until one year they skipped out Birmingham. Nottingham was the closest show and the last train back wouldn't give me chance to see any of their set, I was gutted!

Seeing them back in Birmingham and getting to shoot them on their latest tour has definitely made up for it! I am definitely a 'pop-punk kid' and will never get bored of New Found Glory!

I shot this show for Soundscape Magazine, thanks to the lovely Natalie Humphries for sorting this one for me! Here's a few of my favourite shots, the full set is over on my Flickr.

Here's a few shots of one of the support bands Candyhearts! Full set on Flickr

Rise Against - Brixton Academy

Since moving to Peterborough the amount of gigs I've shot and been to in general has dropped dramatically. Back in Birmingham I could jump on a bus or drive 20 minutes away and shoot a gig practically every night of the week. Now if I want to go to a decent gig it's a 2 hour drive back to Birmingham or atleast £25 to jump on a train to London. Not quite as easy as it was back in Birmingham, meaning I've hardly shot any gigs this year other than festivals!

That was until this month, when I decided to apply for as much as possible and just go for it! Two weeks ago I jumped on a train to London after work and headed to Brixton Academy to shoot Rise Against for Hit The Floor. Sadly I didn't get to see much of their set as I had to rush back to get my train, but I did get some shots that I'm pretty happy with.

NME Awards 2014

I won the live category of the NME Photography awards!!!

I've been holding back on writing a blog about this from when I originally found out that I'd been shortlisted. In a way I didn't want to jinx anything...but having received confirmation emails and attending the awards, I definitely did win and I still can't believe it! It's so amazing to receive such recognition for my work and it's all very exciting!

This is my winning image, a shot I took of Taylor Jardine of We Are The In Crowd at Hit The Deck Nottingham in 2012.

Here's the printed mag with my image in (October 11th issue)

And my certificate...

The awards have also been in the press elsewhere, here's a few links surrounding the event and also some that feature my photo!
