Derbyshire...

Twice I've been up to Derbyshire for location shoots for work, mainly the Peak District and Padley Gorge. These shoots require a lot walking and it's making me realise how unfit I am!!

Here's some shots from the first visit.

And here's the second trip!

First we visited the Monsal tunnel, I could not stop imagining how cool it would be to do a fashion shoot here! Although the tunnel was actually quite light we still needed to set up our tripods and use long exposures.

We then moved on to the second location of the day. I didn't take many on this location because after climbing a very, VERY steep hill and spending most of the time worry about the height and how we'd get down, taking photos was at the back of my mind and we were pushed for time anyway.

These two shots were taken on my mobile phone, this was the climb we did and the view from the top. I still don't think these photos show just how steep the hill was!

Once safe on the ground (after finding a much easier pathway to get down from the hill) I took a few shots before we left. I think this shot is fairly simply, but I'm not sure which I prefer. I'm swayed more to think the colour shot is the best but I'd love opinions on this one!

Rebelicious Magazine Feature

A few months ago I did a shoot with two lovely people that I love working with, Amy Murray and Scarlett Ward. None of these images had been seen until yesterday when we could finally announce that they were being used in the latest issue of Rebelicious Magazine!

I've been a big fan of Rebelicious Magazine since I first came across it and had always wanted to submit work to be featured. I'm still super excited that we got this feature and all had an interview featured as well.
The magazine is available to read for free online here and will be available for purchase very soon.

A massive thanks to Amy and Scarlett again for their work on this shoot and a big thanks to Dominique Marshall for featuring us!

A day at the sea side...

As part of my job at Practical Photography I get to go out on location to assist with photo/video shoots and get behind the scenes shots. I also get a bit of free time to take as many photographs as I can of the location.

I can honestly say that I never really spend much time just shooting 'on location'. If I'm at a location I'm there with a model and that's my main focus. Going along to these shoots with the guys and having free time to shoot, makes me look at things in different ways and think 'how can I get a good shot out of this?'

My second trip out was to Cromer. I don't think I've ever been to the seaside in November - it was freezing! The initial reason we were there was to photograph some long exposure shots of the sea using polarizers, I was super excited to get the chance to shoot some! My shots were taken later in the evening without a polarizer. They're not the best they could be as it's really unnerving sticking your camera on a tripod in the sea with waves coming up, but I love the effect and the lighting. Here's a selection of shots from the day...

Hard Times Clothing A/W Collection

Before moving to Peterborough I took some photographs for the release of Hard Times Clothing's new Autumn/Winter Collection. This shoot was crammed packed into just a couple of hours due to several of us getting stuck in traffic, one model not turning up and some very, very bad rain!

Nevertheless we pushed forward and got some pretty awesome shots, massive thanks to the guys and ladies for this one, Leah Harris, Scarlett Ward, Dale Ballinger and Joel Heywood.

Here's a few shots from the set.

Practical Photography Magazine Internship

At the beginning of October I received a phone call from Practical Photography Magazine offering me a 6 month internship. After doing a one day work placement at their offices back in July, this was extremely exciting news and an opportunity I could not turn down. For the past month I have been living in Peterborough working at the magazine and I am absolutely loving it.

Here is the front cover of the first issue that I've worked on!

There's a tiny little image on the bottom left that I took. It's only small but it's on the front cover!

Black Altar Apparel and Glorious Nightmare clothing with Leah Harris

Last month I got to shoot again with the very lovely Leah Harris. Leah had been sent some clothing to shoot for Black Altar Apparel and Glorious Nightmare who needed some look book style shots for their websites. For this shoot we were lucky enough to have some gorgeous sunshine (on a bank holiday as well) and shot at Cannock Chase. This is my second time shooting here and I really want to go exploring a little more to see what else the location has to offer.

After a bit of a trek and a discussion over my fear of possibly seeing a snake...we set up in one location and shot for Glorious Nightmare. The guys wanted some shots they could use for adverts and promos on their websites and also some shots for their Big Cartel.

Here's some of the results:

We then headed back the way we came for a change of sceneary for the shots for Black Altar Apparel.

A day at the offices of Practical Photography and Digital Photo Magazines

In July thanks to GoThinkBig and the lovely team at Bauer Media's Practical Photography and Digital Photo magazine I got to spend a day at their offices to get an insight into how the magazines work.

When I first got the email saying I'd be chosen for this GoThinkBig opportunity I was so excited! Not only would it give me an insight into a different field within the media but it was also directly related to photography.

During my day at the offices in Peterborough I got to assist and take some product shots of flashes and memory card readers to be featured in the magazine, and even modelled...as a photographer having your picture taken feels sooo weird. You spend so much time on the other side of the camera that when you're in the other position you feel a bit out of your comfort zone. Nevertheless I felt I should throw myself into everything this opportunity gave me and my face even ended up in the September issue!

I cannot thank the team at Practical Photography and Digital Photo enough, even though it was only one day I had so much fun and it gave me the chance to get involved photo-wise and even practice my writing skills. It opened my eyes even more to the fact that I really do want to and need to write more, hence why I'm trying to write more detailed blogs and get used to writing!

You probably won't ever see many photos of me on this blog but here's the pages from Practical Photography featuring my face shot by the lovely Tim Berry who just so happens to be a fellow brummie photographer.

It's been a while...

It has definitely been a while since my last post and in that time I've moved out of my retail job and am currently working for a digital marking agency as a website assistant. I love my new job but working 9-5:30 Monday to Friday gives me very little time to shoot. Whilst I'm still arranging shoots and trying to fit in live shows I am having to limit myself. This doesn't mean I'm stopping just being more selective and trying to push other areas of my career path.

As you may know I regularly shoot for clothing company Eau De Mars with model Jen Hughes. We managed to make the most of the sun and get some bright and colourful images for their lookbook to showcase their new vests.

We shot at Cannon Hill Park and managed to take advantage of the summer fair. Big thanks to the guys who let us shoot at their stall!!
